WALT HARRIS TO AKRON

So much for those Walt Harris-to-Pitt rumors. It looks like the former Panther head coach is headed to the University of Akron to be their quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator. Harris will join the staff of head coach J.D. Brookhart, who was Pitt's offensive coordinator under Harris from 1999-2003.

As for Pitt's still-vacant offensive coordinator job, the hot rumor yesterday was Jets receivers coach Noel Mazzone, but just one day later, the name popping up is California offensive coordinator Frank Cignetti Jr., son of Frank Cignetti, Sr., who was the head coach at IUP and West Virginia for 24 seasons.

Cignetti Jr.'s coaching career started at Pitt as a grad assistant in 1989 and has featured stops with IUP, the Kansas City Chiefs, the New Orleans Saints, Fresno State, North Carolina, and the San Francisco 49ers before joining Cal in 2008. You can read his full bio here.
