MATT CAVANAUGH TO JETS

On National Letter of Intent Day, the biggest news out of Pitt has to do with a coach, not a recruit. Much-maligned offensive coordinator Matt Cavanaugh is expected to take a job with the New York Jets as an offensive assistant, says the PG's Paul Zeise. The move reunites Cavanaugh with new Jets coach Rex Ryan, who worked with Cavanaugh previously with the Baltimore Ravens.

The Pitt fan base is probably holding another parade in the streets of Pittsburgh to celebrate the news, because Cavanaugh wasn't exactly thought of in the greatest terms by Panther followers. So far, there's no word on who the replacement will be, unless Pitt can lure Walt Harris from that Seneca Valley job.

I would welcome the return of Walt as a co-ordinator, it was the head coaching thing was a little bit over hit head.

As a Steeler fan that lives in Maryland (and basically worked in Baltimore for three years), I can tell you that Cavanaugh's tenure as the OC of the Ravens wasn't very well received by Ravens fans, and they rejoiced at his departure. When I heard he was going to Pitt, I knew that Pitt fans would NOT be happy with Matt as an OC - I don't know how he keeps getting jobs! The Jets will regret this.

Yeah I couldn't have put it any better either, Tom. Can only imagine who we're going to get now to replace him though. Not that it will be a hard act to top. I wonder why this waited until Letter of Intent day to happen? Seems like a pretty big coincidence, no?
