MARK MADDEN IS COMING BACK

I know some of you don't share my level of enjoyment for radio personality Mark Madden, so bear with me as I relay the PG report that he will in fact be coming back to the airwaves in early October on 105.9 WXDX (The X), likely October 6.
According to the report, Mr. Madden, as he likes to be called, was released from his ESPN contract, which ran through October 2009. He's been off the air since May of this year after some controversial comments regarding Ted Kennedy.
This is undoubtedly bad news for both ESPN 1250 and Fox 970, as Madden's new show will continue in his old 3-7 PM daily time slot. Rest assured that a great percentage of his old audience will rejoin him at his new home and take listeners away from 970's Joe Bendel and 1250's Paulsen, Logan, and Crow.
I know that he pretty much splits the Mondesi's House audience down the middle, but I've always been pro-Madden. You might not agree with his style, but he has a vast knowledge of all sports (most notably hockey) and is not afraid to speak his mind. I, for one, will truly be looking forward to his return.

To paraphrase a Kurt Warner line: "Thank you Jessssahhhhhhs!!"

Bendel seems like a nice guy, but his approach literally makes me want to fall asleep at the wheel on the way home.

Paulsen never should have left DVE. The guy has been on just about every radio show in the city, and with a life span at about 18 months at each one.

I don't understand how someone like Eddy Crow is allowed to be on a sports show. The dude that won the internship show does a better job when given the chance. It's a joke.

Madden won't be confused with Bob Costas in sports knowledge, but he knows just enough and can combine the entertainment value that keeps me listening from drive time until and after I'm in my house.

One question: Will this be actually four hours of Madden? Or will it be spurts of him in between plays of Metallica and Soundgarden?

Hopefully a full four hours of him.

P.S. Go W&J.

Yes! Finally, just in time for hockey season. I've said before on here how much I love Madden's show and can't stand most of the other talk show hosts and can't really stand to listen to any other shows, so this is great news. And hopefully like burgh08 said it will be straight Madden and not crappy whatever the hell they play music, before that would...well, suck.

Let's go Pens and let's go Madden! Or something!

Hey guys, I thought it was agreed upon that I'm the only one that can make fun of crow around here?

Thank God! Those shows are unbearable. Bendel bends over and never trys to offend anyone and doesn't know dick about hockey - and next to nothing about football - do a variety show, not a sports show. The other 3 clowns are boring as well. I know I'll be at the X ASAP!

Now, since Ted Kennedy was admitted to a hospital last night, is Bob Smizik going to blame this announcement of MM returning to the airwaves?

For the record Soundgarden is hardly "crappy music," but I too am glad to see Madden will soon be back on the airwaves.

This is great news. IMO, he didn't lose one fan to P&C and when he rolls out that will will leave the latter with 652 fans. Or thereabouts.

Augie Zybynski -Editor said...

Then again, 652 seems unreasonably large when allowing for family and friends, plus you have to figure that some family and friends know lousy radio when they hear it.

Lastly, thank god...Madden knows sports. He's got that Doug Hoerth kind of memory.

He is the the Game because he is that damn good...

He is the Voice and Choice of this generation of Pittsburgh sports talkers...

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

Welcome back, Mark!!!

Oh man I hope he calls local sports fans racist and then bags on Bettis some more. THAT NEVER GETS OLD! What would sports talk radio do without an unfunny shock jock spewing retarded crap?

i havent listened to a minute of espn radio since madden left. w/o mark and kornheiser anymore, its craptacular.

welcome back, cant wait.

Thank God! This is the only guy who makes radio sports talk somewhat bearable. I listen just to hear him belittle listeners and interupt anyone who tries to speak over him.

Thank heaven thank heaven the savior of sports talk radio is back. I have been waiting for this for months. I am so glad he is on FM, the only thing that could have been better is if he went to 104.7 so they wouldn't take away from his show with music. Hopefully they wont play too much during his shift. Welcome back double M. By the way big fan, big fan.

Good news. I can't take MM all the time but he is superior to the really painful new espn trio. What are they thinking over there???. Bendel is a good guy but he does try to please everyone too much... .Glad we have something to look forward to at the end of a work day!!!

I don't know how anyone can listen to Eddy Crow. I kind of wish a Pittsburgh station would pick up Dutch from Uniontown WMBS 590 radio. His show is better than what I have had to listen to in Pittsburgh all summer long. Good to see Madden back on the air.

I'm looking at the X's site and there is no mention of Madden... Is he coming on air today?

Mark Madden has long since expired his 15 minutes of fame. He is in no way an expert on sports let alone hockey, and clearly has no experience from participation in anything remotely resembling organized sports. (Unless getting tossed around on a deck hockey rink and running away from any confrontations counts) He is right up there with John Clayton in athletic ability, and is demeaning and rude to anyone with common sense. He blew his chance with a national syndication, and now has to settle with a local station clearly desperate to gain some points. Anyone with any common sense would avoid the X in the afternoon and stick with 1250 am. Sorry Mondessihouse but I have to disagree with you on this one.

"Anyone with any common sense would avoid the X in the afternoon and stick with 1250 am."

Why? Is that nap time? Because that's all that trio is good for on 1250. It's even worse when they have Bettis on. He's all "Me-me-me-me-me, I woulda done this," or "I woulda done that." Pah-lease!

Mark Madden is an entertainer. It's irrelevant how much sports knowledge or athletic ability he has. His job is to go on the airwaves and entertain. Period. He does a very good job at it and his ratings reflect that excellence.

So I seriously doubt it's desperation on the part of the X to bring him on. If anything, it's genius.
