THE SIGNED BARRY ASTERISK BALL

It's been an interesting week in collectibles. First, Cubs fan/whipping boy Steve Bartman gets offered $25,000 to show up at the National Sports Collectors Convention and sign an autograph. And now, an eBay seller with some creativity has come up with a truly unique item: a Barry Bonds-signed "asterisk" baseball. Imagine the potential value of an item should he have the backing of a certain pinstriped-fanbase in the near future.

The ball comes with the Barry Bonds authentic hologram and a removable asterisk. I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that Barry signed it before the asterisk was attached.

Luckily, eBay commenters can be just as tough as blog commenters, such as: "Hello, Uhh you do realize that is a star, not an asterisk, right? An asterisk has 6 points, not 5."

Fun times.

It's a novel idea and 75% of the sale price will be given to the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation. It's the most inspired theme I've seen for a signed ball since the Pete Rose "I'm Sorry I Bet on Baseball" edition.
