I can't even begin to describe how sad I am. He was a uniquely Pittsburgh institution, and I never really gave up hope that he might return to the booth.
Sportscasters as nutty and entertaining as Cope are a dying breed, no pun intended. This was a long time coming; may he rest in peace. Unfortunately, I don't think Coach Noll will be too far behind him.
Wow. RIP Myron.
This is a sad day in the Okel Dokel household. Rest in Peace Myron, you are a legend and will be missed.
Rest in peace, Myron
Man, this is what is truly great about the Pittsburgh Steelers: while the Knoll-led heyday was well before my time (I'm 22), I have always felt a real connection with those teams (and all the teams before them). Thanks to the Rooney family and men like Myron Cope, names like Ernie Stautner and Andy Russell mean as much to me as Cowher and Bettis.
While I'm incredibly saddened to read of Myron Cope's death, I am so thankful to have been born in Pittsburgh and able to call this organization my own.
Cope, along with the long tenures of Knoll, Cowher, Mike Webster, and Dermotti Dawson helped bridge a generational gap between my teams and my father's. In fact, no era in Steelers history feels "off limits", I can take great pride in the accomplishments of any man to wear that uniform.
While it has already been said, and will be said countless times more, I had to do it myself;
Bye, now, Myron. And thank you
Cope is of those things that sets franchises like the Steelers apart from everyone else.
That was Myron Cope on sports.
I'm really bummed about it...death sucks.
